I have often heard blogs being referred to as “my little corner of the internet” and term resonates with me. So in saying that, I would like to officially welcome you to my personal corner of the World Wide Web, Nickels & Noodles. I am so happy that you took the time out of your day to swing by. My name is Alexandra and I am excited to get to know you all better. Nickels & Noodles is a food blog born out of my relentless obsession with all things delicious and edible. Since food is always on my brain I thought that I would share my ramblings and recipes with you.
I know that there are about a million different food blogs out there so I’ll be a bit more specific about my plan here, Nickels & Noodles is a blog about cooking delicious, wholesome food for not a whole lot of money. I know that you are probably wondering why I would decide to make a budget food blog when I could write one with recipes calling for foie gras and caviar. Well it’s really simple, I have spent a lot of my adult life being broke. My obsession with food started young and drove me to get graduate degree in Food Studies. If you just did that math in your head you’ll realize that comes to a rough total 6 years of studying edible things. College is expensive! I spent my days reading about food that I couldn’t afford to go out to restaurants to try. The way that I saw it this left me with one choice; I had to figure out how to make the delicious things that I was reading about while staying within my budget. While my fellow grad students were chowing down on boxed macaroni with powered cheese and/or instant noodles, I bought real ingredients and put the time and effort into making myself home cooked meals, three times a day, every day. This resulted in a lot of friends “dropping by” around meal time. Aside from that, it left me with a real appreciation for how far you can stretch your food dollar if you put your mind to it.
I know that the thought of cooking and budgeting can be daunting. I also know that with work, school, kids, parents, or just life, putting interesting and unique meals on the table does not always make the top of the priority list. So I am here to help. My goal is to share delicious and wholesome recipes with you that are affordable. I promise that you that you won’t need to be a chef to recreate what I post. My goal with Nickels & Noodles is just to help you think outside the (macaroni) box. It will take some time and effort, but I promise you that we can create some pretty yummy things together. So put down the instant noodles and pick up a spatula, let’s do this!
